What is Svartrau?
Svartrau is the major city at the centre of Vale Sangora’s political life. The official Secrets of Vale Sangora bulletin attributes its wealth to silver trading. Its setting combines a prosperous surface city with much older spaces underground.

What is beneath the city?
The official lore describes underground spaces used to evade pursuers, alongside creatures hiding in their depths. Svartrau is therefore more than its streets and skyline. When a source mentions crypts or ruins, distinguish the specific underground objective from the general city location.
Fextralife also maintains a separate Svartrau City region page. Its unfinished quest and item tables are not evidence of a complete collectible list, so they are not reproduced here as one.
Why does the cathedral matter?
The November 2025 official gameplay presentation follows Coen through an investigation around Svartrau Cathedral. An earlier demonstration shows Xanthe inside the cathedral. These provide useful context for recognising the location, without establishing a universal quest order for the released game.
How does the castle fit into the city?
Brencis’s official profile names Greifberg Castle above Svartrau as his seat of power. Use the city, cathedral and castle names precisely when following a quest description; they are related landmarks, not interchangeable labels.
Before committing to a marked conversation or objective, check the hourglass time cost. Looking around the city is different from confirming an action that advances Coen’s deadline.
